Dan,

I took a chance on you being around on Saturday when I got desperate to get the FA extension working for my client. Just before you called back (for which I am very grateful) I accidentally discovered that handsets are wired with reverse plugs--the green and red are reversed in the connectors. That explained the problem and why I was getting false readings. When I reversed the connector it worked fine.

And mere moments later I was called out to lend emergency assistance to a neighbor--I am a volunteer fire fighter in our community. I got back too late to call you.

Bottom line is that I have a happy client and I am a very happy customer that you would respond so well.

Thank you Dan!

FreezeAlarm testimonials

I purchased an Intermediate Freeze Alarm 3 years ago and would like to offer my opinion on the design and performance of this device. Rarely do I take the time to compliment product, but this one is worthy of praise. I live in New England and winter in Florida. Power outages here are not uncommon, and combined with sub freezing temps pose a serious risk when a home is unattended. After 3 winters of use, this unit still performs flawlessly in doing an extremely complicated job (one that would appear in my mind to be almost impossible). Of course I know that I would receive a automated call in the event of a problem but I still love the ability to to call home, access the alarm while avoiding a still functioning answering system, and retrieve real time temp readings. The design leaves nothing to be desired! Its ease of programming, both locally and remotely is fantastic. The clear and detailed owners manual just make this great alarm even better. I have extreme confidence in the protection that it offers, and allows me peace of mind for months while away.
I couldn’t have made a better decision than to purchase this product.

Sincerely,
Mike M.

Dear Freeze Alert,

I live in the Northeast where power outages occur frequently. I ordered a Freeze Alert on 12/28/2010 and received it on 12/31/2010.
Thanks to superb design and excellent technical writing, installation was easy and only took me a few minutes. I'm a professor of English, and I'm sensitive to language. Please accept my compliments on what I consider to be perfect technical writing. I wish that every manual could be as clear and as easy to follow as yours.

Best Regards,
SZ

Dear Dan,

This letter is a statement of our experience at Chinquapin after installing your freeze alarms six winters ago. Chinquapin consists of 172 condominium units, most of which are townhouses, built over the the first five years of the '70s. We are located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. All but two units are secondary residences for their owners and therefore unoccupied the majority of the time. About a third are rented by their owners on a limited basis. Before we installed the freeze alarms we incurred one or two serious water damage losses each winter and our insurance was finally non-renewed, causing our renewal premium to increase approximately 500%.

Since the installation we have averaged over 25 alarm calls each winter, most because of some problem with either the thermostat or the furnace, anyone of which could have easily caused a pipe to burst with serious resultant damage. We have not had a pipe freeze where the alarm failed. The only frozen pipe loss since the alarm installation was the result of someone leaving a bathroom door closed while house was unoccupied. The temperature where the alarm was located remained above the setting.

The cost of the alarm and service is minimal compared to the prospects of having a loss that typically will be in the mid five digits. I believe this type of alarm should be mandatory for properties such as ours located in freezing climates.

Sincerely, Dan King

Dear Freeze Alert,

I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know how very pleased we are with our Freeze Alert System. We have had our house in Tahoe for over thirty years and last year was the first time we could feel perfectly calm about pipes freezing when we were not there. We used to spend a lot of time in Tahoe during the winter months but now that we have cut down on our winter trips, having a Freeze Alarm makes it easier to leave the house unattended for long periods of time. It has already proven its worth, when friends stayed at the house last winter and turned the heat off when they left. The alarm went off, and someone was there immediately to turn the thermostat back on before any damage could be done. The alarm has been wonderful and I always appreciate the friendly service. Keep up the good work.

Sincerely, Rita Friedman

If you have a second home in a cold climate this product is perfect. I have the capability to call ahead to turn up the heat so my lake home is warm when I arrive -- which is terrific. I wired this myself and it took a couple hours to do -- not a big deal if you like little projects like this. You do need a telephone jack and a power recepticle nearby so I spent the bulk of the time determining where I wanted to locate the Freeze Alarm so it was out of the way. I decided to locate it in a basement closet so I had to run the power receptical and telephone jack there -- which took the lion's share of my installation time.

It is also great if you are concerned about your furnace in the winter. It can call three numbers if the temperature gets below a threshold that you set. Works great and provides peace of mind.

It is a little expensive for what it is but it certainly appears to be a well engineered and quality product.

FreezeAlarm testimonials

We purchased our Deluxe FreezeAlarm in 1995 for use in our very remote vacation home in the mountains of West Virginia. We have relied on the unit to alert us of low temperature conditions (the heat and water are left on) as well as power outages. There has been no one that we could rely on to check our home periodically so we counted heavily on our FreezeAlarm. It has truly been our salvation. We have had numerous power outages and heating system failures. In EVERY case, our FreezeAlarm notified all three of its contact phones. For the past 14 years it has never failed us once and we have never had a problem with it. We plugged the unit into the same outlet as the refrigerator which alerts us if the refrigerator circuit fails or if we get a total power outage. By calling the unit each day, we can also determine that the telephone line is in service which tells us that our security system is able to call out to ADT in the event of a break in. The FreezeAlarm is very easy to operate and the remote programming feature is a “must have”. During cold weather, we call our FreezeAlarm while we are enroute and our home is nice and comfortable when we arrive which is usually after dark. Many of our friends and family have had their homes nearly destroyed during cold weather when they are away. If the heating system fails, pipes freeze and water damages the ceilings, floors, carpets and contents. Our freeze alarm even called us twice when falling limbs broke out windows causing the temperature to fall below the alarm set point. Our FreezeAlarm allows us to set our heating system temperature to 50 degrees which saves us lots of money on our gas and electric bill. We have a new FreezeAlarm although we have not had a problem with our old unit. One feature that we like about the new unit is the heavy-duty backup battery which allows the unit to continue to function during long power outages. We have not received any sort of compensation for this endorsement. We simply believe in the product. The purchase price is certainly reasonable.
